My art is a variety of mixed media. I am interested in separating  layers of paint, applied paper, or wood, cutting away or peeling off surface layers, to make the work 3 dimensional.  In some pieces the vulnerability of the material is revealed by the natural tears and splintering that occurs during the process, in others, layers are constructed above the surface with woven thread and collage. In either case these layers are an emotive skin creating a tension between the surface and the space around it, allowing the shadows to become another element of the composition.
